| Optimus Prime Excel Saga |
[Feb. 23rd, 2011|02:56 am] |
It finally occurred to me why the newest Optimus Prime for Transformers: Dark of the Moon has a butterfly mode. (Check out this link if you need photographic reference http://powet.tv/powetblog/2011/02/10/toy-fair-2011-pre-toy-fair-reveals-for-hasbros-transformers/ )
Optimus Prime has gotten into the habit of dying and then coming back to life shortly thereafter over the years. He did it in several comics, the animated movie/season 3, The Revenge of the Fallen. One of the bright sides to being a robot is that resurrection is kind of expected to some degree.
In the anime/manga Excel Saga there is a character called Hyatt whose constantly coughs up blood and dies, only to come back to life shortly thereafter. She and her senior, the titular Excel, work for an organization trying to take over the world, and as such often go undercover and use pseudonyms. One such pseudonym for Hyatt is Convoy Butterfly.
In Japan, the original Optimus Prime is called Convoy.
So Optimus prime having a Butterfly mode is a reference to Excel Saga.
Even if it isn't intentional, it sure as heck is appropriate. |

| | amused? | ] | It amuses me that I will have one bank, checks from another, inside a checkbook cover from a third.
It amuses me that I'm wearing a Spider-man shirt, listened to a version of the Spider-man song on the way to storage, then ,as is natural, saw a bunch of spiders inside said storage. Admittedly, each of those is not too odd on its on, but all three together amuses me.
Books, comics, toys, games, and DVDs amuse me.
... It doesn't amuse me how I'm essentially burying myself in things that amuse me. |

Looking forward to a road-trip with R2 and R3 up to GMX, need to book a room and get tickets. This will be the longest continuous distance I've ever driven, and furthest north I've ever driven. Hopefully we won't drive each other too crazy. |

| | That Girls a Genius by Jet | ] | ( Here ) Did not snag any of the graphic novels I was looking for, but did see the parade Saturday from Ghostbusters to the end. The Hulk Vs(Wolverine we all fell asleep after, in spite of Deadpool's awesomeness, The Thor one was much better) Blu-ray was on sale at Best Buy, Outlander(pretty good movie) and the other DVDs were from Blockbuster. Dragoncon We went to a variety of panels including the Gonzo Panel Show where Adam Savage from Mythbusters had to argue for the existence of UFO Abductions. Saw a couple of Voice acting panels, and got Neil Kaplan's signature(3x actually) He really seemed down to earth and friendly(and he updates his own IMDB page, unlike some other voice actors). He is really proud of his voice work on Starcraft II. His graphic novel I of the Wolf looks to be very interesting and disturbing, looking forward to picking it up when it releases. Codemonkeys(on G4) is pretty entertaining, at least the unaired Pilot was hilarious. Saw the first half of the first episode of the new season of Venture Brothers. Kevin Conroy provides the voice for a character who it makes sense for him to voice given what the character is a spoof of. Oh, and not in the episode, but a question someone asked at the Venture Bros. Panel: Helen Keller vs. Anne Frank. After The Devastator's Got NardsPresentation/discussion I won a T-shirt and a ticket to GMX in Nashville Oct 2-4 by knowing that it was Spider-man who teamed up with Gears. http://www.whatisgmx.net I think the site might be down at the moment but hopefully it will be back up shortly. thatguywiththeglasses AKA Nostalgia Critic will be there. I need to figure out if I can make it, given that it isn't in one day driving range, and that I'd actually have to take time off for it.
Oh, and it is kind of satisfying to hear that it took two people to do what I normally handle by myself, and to get a warm welcome back to work hug. That being said I'll wrap this up now. |

Probably because that means there is more to read and I don't read that quickly. Off to Dragoncon I go. Well to my Bros' then to Dragoncon. 2 purchasing goals: snag 19 and any others after that for Excel Saga, and 11 of Deathnote so I can finally finish reading it. Plan to take in the sights, sounds, and hopefully not so much the smells, but those too, and relax, enjoy some panels, watch a few things. Generally I'm not into the actual meeting of famous people, but did get Mike Resnick's signature last year. Don't know of anyone I just have to meet. But we'll see. |

| Weird Dream with a life of its own |
[Aug. 23rd, 2009|07:35 pm] |
It is odd when you dream and a person in that dream who does not exist seems so real. We met outside of a Target that had a garden out the back. I was with a vendor and we were chating and she was sitting on a bench writing/working on something having to do with wireless internet. I don't know how many times we came across each other but a friendship was struck up and whilst during this montage of time several guys came and hit on her. She had put goop on her face for a facial and whilst I was asleep on the bench she stuck said goop on my face. She had a boyfriend who was a pretty cool guy and they taught me to ride a scooter.
There was a cat she had at one time and I can't remember if it had died or disappeared, but I held onto a scrap of a cat food bag it had rubbed against. Went and met her family the details of which are now fading. I remember holding the cat-food bag scrap out for the two or three cats at her family's house to see how they reacted. Not sure what I hoped to learn. Went outside at the request of one of her family and was told to look towards the fog at the Husky one of her neighbors had. I think there was a question asked and the answer I gave was that they were pack animals. Then I was told to look closer as more dogs appeared from the fog including one the size of a great dane, then suddenly they began to run towards us and I was told to get inside and close the door. I think one was stuck in the door once I closed it, but their intentions were not nice so I didn't feel too bad.
She gets arrested, and so we go to the jail to see her and one of her uncles dances silly and I join him to brighten everyone's spirits. Turns out she was wanted for some hacking crime. I wind up leaving because I have to get back home so I can get my computer moved back to the dorm?! Weird dream indeed. |

| | Craigslist by Weird Al | ] | One week till the movie I've been waiting for for a couple of years comes out. (Is that right? It sounds right, but looks odd.)
The Clayton County jail is very clean. The door system makes me think of airlocks on a spaceship. An interesting place to visit, but definitely don't want to live there.
Also, I may not be able to share any details of cases we hear, but I will share a lesson learned. In case of a fire, doors and windows may not be the only exits. Walls could be potential points of egress. Maybe even the floor or ceiling possibly.
I like Al's latest song more than the parody before it. I guess I'd rather have his stylistic parody of a rock group over a straight up parody of a newer R&B artist's latest song. Not surprising since I think one of my favorite songs of his is a stylistic parody of Devo.
Dawn of War Soulstorm is pretty fun. |

| My B-day weekend |
[Jun. 7th, 2009|11:25 pm] |
30 isn't that different from 29, I'm tired, but think that has little to do with age. Played Dawn of War a few times with my brothers this weekend, I'm gradually learning the game. Saw Star Trek Saturday, and enjoyed it. Enjoyed Sushi. Sunday, hit up a Comic shop on the north side of town(Dr.No's) looking for some comics we were missing, found two out of the 4. after turning the wrong way due to visibility concerns we came across a Blockbuster turned indoor yard sale. Saw a CD without its original case that I had no idea who it was but was intrigued by the art, and it was only 2$. Turned out to be an Alanis Morissette CD, not sure which one yet, but its from 1998. Picked up some DVDs @ Moviestop. When I was about to head back home after we got back to the apartment, the Focus wouldn't start, so I had to call AAA. I got the battery replaced, and now I'm home and need to be at work early tomorrow. Beautiful full moon tonight reminded me that its a blessing to have lived as long as I have. |
